On November 15, 2023, representatives from CBM International, Miss Naima Sheikh, Regional Communications and Brand Coordinator at Global Office CBM International, and Miss Benazir Awan, HR and Admin Manager at the CBM County Office, paid a visit to the Sindh Institute of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences Hyderabad. The delegation received a warm welcome from the Institute's Faculty Members, including Dr Shahzad Memon (Associate Professor of Ophthalmology) and Dr Mohsin Iqbal (Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology), as well as the management and project team, including Mr. Raja Raffay Nizamani (Deputy Director Administration), Mr. Jalil Ahmed Rajper (Deputy Director Ophthalmic Community Services), Mr. Shahbaz Ali (Program Coordinator), and Mr. Mehran Memon (Assistant Director I.T.).![]()
During the visit, the delegates visited various facilities of the Institute, including the OPD Block, Laboratory, Optical Lab, and Operation Theater Complex. Dr. Shahzad Memon and Dr. Mohsin Iqbal, accompanied by the Institute's management staff, provided a detailed overview of the patient treatment process and the services offered through advanced modern machinery. The delegates were highly impressed and commended the Institute for providing entirely free services to the marginalized people of Sindh, Pakistan.![]()
Subsequently, a meeting was conducted with the faculty and management team of the Community Ophthalmology Department of the Institute. During this session, Dr Mohsin Iqbal presented the clinical and academic services of the Institute, while Mr. Shahbaz Ali highlighted the work of the Community Ophthalmology Department in assisting the disadvantaged people of Sindh with the support of CBM International. The collaborative efforts of SIOVS and CBM International towards serving the marginalized community were highly appreciated by members of CBM's Global and National teams. The Sindhi Traditional Gifts also presented to the guests.
The Brien Holden Foundation (BHF), during their monitoring visit in District Badin, visited the site of their project named "Reducing Childhood Blindness and Vision Impairment for Disadvantaged Children in Pakistan), being run in collaboration with Sindh Institute of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (SIOVS) Hyderabad. ![]()

The primary goal of the project is to provide Eye Health Training for 1,500 teachers. Out of the primary goal, 1180 teachers have already received Eye Health Training. ![]()

The primary task of the teachers who have received the Eye Health training is to screen out students having potential eye health issues and identify those who require further eye health-related care.
A Surgical Camp was conducted with the support of Prevention and Control of Blindness (PCB) Program and Sindh Institute of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (SIOVS) Hyderabad, where with the immense support of DHQ Qambar by providing the human resource and managing the whole camp, a surgical camp was conducted, where a total of 149 patients were screened, and 28 patients underwent cataract surgery.
The Honorable Secretary Health, Dr. Syed Mansoor Abbas Rizvi, accompanied by Dr. Pir Ghulam Hussain, Additional Director Health Services Sindh, Dr. Sikandar Ali Memon, Additional Director Communicable Diseases Control and HIV Aids Sindh, and Dr. Ghulam Murtaza Memon, Additional Director M & E, Director General Health Services Sindh, paid a surprise visit on 28 September 2023 at Sindh Institute of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences Hyderabad, where they were warmly welcomed by the Faculty Members of the Institute, Dr. Shehzad Memon, Associate Professor Ophthalmology, Dr. Fariha Sher Wali, Assistant Professor Ophthalmology, Dr. Mohsin Iqbal, Assistant Professor Ophthalmology, Dr. Asra Talpur, Assistant Professor Ophthalmology, Dr. Neelam Nizamani, Senior Registrar, and also by the management team including Mr. Raja Raffay Nizamani, Deputy Director Administration, Mr. Asif Ali Chakrani, Deputy Director Finance, Mr. Jalil Ahmed Rajper, Deputy Director Ophthalmic Community Services. ![]()

Initially, the OPD Block of the Institute was visited where Dr. Shehzad Memon, alongwith the faculty members of the Institute, briefed about the process as how a patient is treated and what services are availed by him through the highly equipped modern machinery, and Honorable Secretary Health alongwith his team members were highly impressed. ![]()

Thereafter, the Laboratory of the Institute was visited where Dr. Shehzad Memon, alongwith the faculty members and concerned staff, briefed about the highly quality services provided by the Institute through modern day equipment. The Honorable Secretary Health was very impressed with the briefing of the concerned staff alongwith the services being provided to the patients.![]()

Thereafter, the Administrative, Financial, Community and Academic Blocks of the Institute were visited, where the Honorable Secretary Health Dr. Syed Mansoor Abbas Rizvi alongwith the members of the visiting team were very impressed with the hard work and efforts put up by these respective departments for the betterment and success of this Institute. ![]()

In the end, Dr. Syed Mansoor Abbas Rizvi, Honorable Secretary Health, praised the faculty members and the management team about their hard work and efforts put up by them for this Institute and ensured them that all the issues pertaining to Sindh Institute of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences Hyderabad will be resolved very soon.
Dr. Saud ul Hassan, Post Graduate Resident Trainee of FCPS - II Ophthalmology Program, has cleared his final exam in the recently concluded month of June 2023. We wish him very best of luck during his future career and commitments.
